While Hitler claimed to be a patriot and used nationalist rhetoric to gain support for his regime, his actions and beliefs were ultimately destructive and led to the devastation of his own country and the world. His extreme nationalism and expansionist policies were driven by a desire for power and domination rather than genuine love for his country.
